Assault in Turlock leads to An Arrest for Attempt Homicide

On Monday, July 11, 2022, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to a report of two males fighting in the 500 block of Castor Street.  Prior to their arrival, officers learned it was a stabbing.

A supervisor, who was responding to the call, was flagged down by a male victim.  The male had sustained a potentially life threatening stab wound and had left Castor Street seeking medical treatment.  Turlock Fire Department personnel arrived and immediately administered medical aid until relieved by ambulance personnel.

Prior to being transported to a local area hospital, the male victim was able to provide the name of the person who stabbed him and a general location of where the suspect’s residence was located.  The victim indicated the incident began over a disagreement between the two men.

Officers responded to the 400 block of West Main Street to look for the suspect and briefly spotted him in the area.  Information learned from the initial investigation revealed the suspect, later identified as Turlock resident Kenneth James Shipman, 39-years old, possibly lived nearby.  A perimeter was established while officers attempted to pinpoint Shipman’s location.  The Turlock Police Department drone team arrived and began an aerial search.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area as well and assisted with the search using their drones and their helicopter.  Shipman was eventually located after officers learned he had fled his residence and had unknowingly been hiding inside a neighboring residence.  Shipman was taken into custody after exiting the neighbor’s residence approximately one hour after he was initially spotted.

Turlock Police Detectives assisted with the investigation and later served a search warrant at Shipman’s residence to look for evidence associated with this crime.  Shipman was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for attempt homicide and remains in custody with a $500,000 bail.

Detective Raul Garcia said, “The safety of our community is our number one priority.  We want to thank our law enforcement partners who assisted in the apprehension of this individual.”
